Post:
Hi,

I'm using yafu 1.09 mt and I (still) found zombie processes.

This time it's not after a crash. My steps:
1 - I pause all project except Yafu to force Yafu to run.
2 - After some times I resume others projects
3 - => A running Yafu WU is paused (time near 10 min)
...
4 - Next day, goto step 1
5 - The Yafu WU is restarted from zero

When I perform a PS I found zombie process in pause

A valid yafu process look like this:

What about credit?
I finish a WU on a 8 cores (runtime near 1h30) and get credit as previous single core version running a WU for 1H30.

It should grant credit for 8*1h30 right?

When I was monitoring Yafu, I found a strange behavior about Yafu & gnfs-lasieve issue.

If I well understand, Yafu run first, and if doesn't find a factor, then it launch gnfs-lasieve to continue it search.

At some point, boinc manager pause yafu to crunch another wu.

So Yafu is displayed as "Waiting to run", but when I launch htop, I can see gnfs-lasieve still running at 100%.

Hope this help

Post:
Hi,

sometimes I have memory problems and Yafu crash (see this post)

So WU appears in Boinc Manager as done with status "Computation Error".

When I launch htop, I can see Yafu still running.

When these race conditions occurs whith 2 instance of Yafu running, I have 2 zombies.

If you need more information, I will try to provide some help.

Thanks

Hi,

I loose 3 WU (+7 hours, +4 hours, ~2 hours)
WU 1 - WU 2 - WU 3

all killed with SIGSEGV (11): Invalid memory reference

I found this on SIGSEGV

QUESTION
Signal 11, what does that mean?
ANSWER
Signal 11, or officially know as "segmentation fault", means that the program accessed a memory location that was not assigned. That's usually a bug in the program. So if you're writing your own program, that's the most likely cause. However, this FAQ will concentrate on the possibilities besides that.

About the context.

When I've checked the running processes before the application crash, yafu wasn't running but gnfs-lasieve.

I checked the processes because my computer has become slow.

I found that the memory get low. I run also yoyo/ecm project and nfs@home. I had 2 yoyo/ecm running, 1 nfs@home and 3 yafu/gnfs-lasieve running/in memory.

The memory (4GB) was use almost at 100% (3700 MB on 3888 MB) and the swap was used intensively (2500-3500 MB on 4700 MB)

So I suspect a problem in gnfs-lasieve with bad memory condition.

I change the memory settings in the projects (to use 50% memory and 75% swap).
Will see if it's better.

Ludo

I set the option 'Keep in memory' to fix a problem with long WUs that don't end up otherwise. There is a thread about this.

Today I found a C97 WU with more than 14 hours of computing.

I check the options and found the 'Keep in memory' was reseted to false.

Is it a bug during installation of a new version of the server?

I'm not sure if this occurs after the installation of a new server or after you restart the server yesterday.

That doesn't sound reasonable. The long wus should run ~2h. Do you restart your Boinc frequently? Which app version runs?

I'm running boinc version 6.12.34 on Linux.
I restart boinc only when I restart my linux, that means, rarely.

Currently, WU are finished between 2 sec and 12000 sec (> 3 hours).

About my 2 very long WU (more than 18 hours, when I left friday night) I can't give you more information. They were computed using yafu 128.01 and they are not more available in my list of completed tasks. Maybe you can find them in my history if you still have access to it.

AFAIR the deadline is 10h and a workunit (not the fast ones) runs ~1h.

Not quite true.

I have 2 WU that are running now since 16 hours each on a Core i7 3Ghz and they are not finished.

In my account, both are marked as "Timed out - no response".

I hope you will grant credit for those WU. I would not like to loose more than 30 hours of computing.

Regards
