1) Message boards : Number crunching : When will you update yafu to version 2? (Message 1669)

Yes. The amount of time & power wasted on stuck work units is a real turn off, especial with current high power prices. You never quite know if it's stuck or still going.
Abandoning 20,30+ hrs of crunching is very wasteful.

I just gave up on a 32T task after it had been running for nearly 7 days, 3 of which it sat at 100%.
I could see the task in my task manager and it was using about 4% of my CPU. After I restarted BOINC, the task restarted at about 76% complete and the 7 days disappeared to be replaced with about 8hrs. After I left it over night, then aborted it.
7 days locking up 32 threads is just a bridge too far.

I think the answer is "yes" Mikey.
A 1950X will use all 32 threads to crunch a 32t task.
4) Message boards : Number crunching : When should a "stalled" task be aborted? (Message 1548)

I'm going to ask the same question sorry...... How long do I wait till I abort a task??
I have a couple of 4t tasks on different pc's that have been crunching for 2 days sitting at 100%. How much longer do I wait?
Its the one issue with this project that annoys me. This isn't the first time this has happened.

Nevermind, I aborted the task. 29 threads tied up for a week is a bridge too far for me.

Perfectly named thread. I have a 16T that been crunching for 6 days and the deadline date was 13/06/20? It was sent to me 08/06/20.

With this eventually upload? or now that it's past the deadline date it's a lost cause? This is tying up 29 threads for days now. I'm unsure if I just wait or should I abort it?

Task 6032496
Work Unit 4693966

The deadline though is written in GREEN and has a date of 23/06/20? Do I get more time to crunch if it's past the deadline but still crunching?

**UPDATE...wow...so I restarted that pc and now that BOINC has reopened this wu shows as only 64% complete where as its been stuck at 100% for days. I'd guess it was the 3 day checkpoint then I've wasted 3 days on top.

One of my other pc's looks like it might have a stuck 8T wu. I'm going to restart that pc and see what happens.

And this -
https://yafu.myfirewall.org/yafu/result.php?resultid=5082321

131,765.90 sec runtime for 1,835.66 credits (8t) Really??

I think this credit inconsistency hurts this project when it comes to gaining people to crunch YAFU.
If there's some way to fix this or if the community asks for it, would you consider a possible alternative to the current award of credits?
I ask this because I think it will improve the project participates.

Speaking of credits, I can't get my head around how they are awarded? Take this example -
One of my 32t tasks took 175,452.00 second and I was awarded 43,056.63 credits. Another PC did an 8t in 117,073.42 seconds and I was awarded 76,227.37 credits?? Same PC did another 8t WU in 114,693.71 seconds and was awarded 7,243.33 credits??

Is there a method to the madness?

Does running one type of w/u like 8t for example provide more credits than running 32t?

So I have an 8t WU running which has now clocked up 16hrs but the deadline is 19/03/19 and it's been at 100% for quite some time now.
What happens if it gets past the deadline? Have I tied up 8 cores for 16hrs for nothing?
I won't be impressed if that's the case.
