1) Message boards : Cafe : Children’s Respite Home closed by Network Rail’s Heartless Action (Message 1739)

Sorry for the off topic post, but I stayed at this campsite/B&B/kid's charity and would hate to see it closed down. Network Rail never paid them the £250K damage they caused by making a flood by blocking a stream. Now they're doing this. It seems Network Rail operate above the law.

How should we notify you of new private messages, friend requests, posts in subscribed threads, and other events?
Immediately, by email

Not working. I occasionally notice in Boinc notices, but most replies in here I never get to see.

If you go into your account page then select "YAFU preferences" You can select what "applications" you want to "run" by ticking and unticking the boxes in the list
But it only gives you a 32t task if you have a 32 thread or more CPU. you have to trick Boinc into thinking you have 32 threads to get those tasks. Then other things get messy.

Your current deadlines are 10 times shorter on Boinc as they are on the server. This makes Boinc constantly run your project and nothing else ever gets in, as it's constantly in panic mode. There's no reason to lie about the deadline.

What we seem to have currently is 4t tasks which automatically use 4 or more threads, 8t uses 8 or more, etc. But if you have say a 24 core machine, you do not get given 32,64,128t tasks, but they will work and get by with any number of threads. You can force them to in app_config. So why is the server not handing them out? It looks from your server status you are not getting many of the big ones done. Why not let them get handed out to people with under 128 cores?

I can only assume you want the big ones done on faster machines, but perhaps you could make it hand them out in preference. So a 16 core machine will get 16t tasks, unless they run out, then it gets 32t tasks.

Looks like it is now.
7) Message boards : Number crunching : When will you update yafu to version 2? (Message 1725)

Yes. The amount of time & power wasted on stuck work units is a real turn off, especial with current high power prices. You never quite know if it's stuck or still going.
Abandoning 20,30+ hrs of crunching is very wasteful.
I just got one, still broken then? And you do know, if a task sticks at 100.0%, simply look at the CPU usage of the machine in task manager etc. If it's been at 0 for a few minutes, cancel the task. And it doesn't waste power if it's not calculating.

I notice you have nobody running 64t and 128t, and only one person running 32t.
Why is Yafu not on the Boinc list when adding a project? You could get a lot more users.
